  • Dr. Emily Dworkin (Principal Investigator)

    Pronouns: she/her/hers

Where I grew up: Cleveland Heights, Ohio

    Hobbies: Knitting, reading, beachcombing

My CARE-related passions: When I was a rape crisis advocate in the mid 2000s, I accompanied survivors at the hospital through the process of getting a rape kit. Many survivors came to the hospital with someone to support them, but others came alone or with a person who was unsupportive. I saw firsthand how hard that was on survivors. This showed me how important supporters are in survivors’ recovery, and made me want to do all I can to help supporters help survivors.

  • JP Santos (Study Coordinator)

    Pronouns: she/her/hers/they/them

Where I grew up: I have lived in various regions of Mexico & the US, but I consider Tijuana, Mexico to be my hometown

Hobbies: Trying new recipes, reading, & learning about/befriending trees

My CARE-related passions: I am passionate about being a source of support for survivors during challenging moments and empowering them to develop skills & strategies to use outside a clinician’s office. It is also important for me to make CARE more accessible by being able to offer CARE in both English and Spanish.

  • Dr. Michele Bedard-Gilligan (Co-Investigator)

    Pronouns: she/her/hers

Where I grew up: Yardley, PA (outside Philadelphia)

Hobbies: Cooking, running, traveling, and reading

My CARE-related passions: I am inspired by the people in both my personal and professional life who have overcome incredible adversity to thrive and move forward. Individuals exposed to traumatic events, such as sexual assault, exhibit strength and courage even in the face of tremendous suffering. I am passionate about helping to foster recovery and meaningful adaption for these individuals, including helping them draw on the natural strengths and supports they have within and around them.
